"Hey, Beau"

I may have asked you already about this, but did LL ever have any seriously, or otherwise, violent "confrontations" while on the road?
I know from my pitiful little travels that one will run into all kinds of people, good and bad, on the road. The loonies and plain old bad guys seem think folks on the road are fair game.

What do you mean by "on the road? In his young life? Yes, certainly. Quite a few.

Yeah, I know it's pretty ruff out there. Whenever you mention him working out with his weights it brings to mind my own working out. I mainly did it to be in shape for any .. problems that might arise. It actually kept me from having problems.
Anyway in HIS pics he looks like he was fairly stout.
I'm not saying that's why he kept in shape, just that it's likely.
Survival on the road is an interesting subject.

I would think it would also be a way to pass the time. One would assume that he worked out in the short time that he was a boxer, but I'm thinking that in the periods when he was living on the road, or the time he was out at that mine, that he probably did things to stay in shape and help pass the time.

Back when Dad was fighting it is rare to hear about anything akin to a modern workout except to running, sit ups and jumping rope. Of course boxers boxed a lot and punched heavy and light bags but running was the main exercise.

Of course most guys did strenuous work to earn a living, and Dad did plenty of that. There was generally no time or money for any sort of fancy work out in his life until he was in his 60s. He walked a lot out of necessity but I don't think he lifted weights with any regularity until I was born ... that was because writing is VERY hard on the back. Writers stay in shape or they can't get out of bed in the morning. Too much sitting!

Well, I meant more of a general workout, than the kind of thing they do these days. But I guess he got plenty of exercise.

That's great, him working out in his sixties! I'm in my early sixties and fighting for my health now. I was in the hospital for 2 wks and am now on dialysis 2x wk. But I'm on a walker now and getting stronger every day. Pretty soon I think I'll be able to walk around the block.
LL must've been some tough guy until the big C got him.
