"coffee pots"

I'm watching The Streets of San Francisco on the Decades channel. Scene where Karl Malden character's daughter is home from college. She asks how his coffee is and he says it's fine. She knows something is up. He says, "you scrubbed the coffee pot, didn't you?"
"Of course, it looked like no one had since the last time I was here."
"That's because no one had. Scrubbing the coffee pot destroys its character."

Yup Yup Yup. Had a buddy who never washed pot nor cup. My ex, Debby, washed his cup, cleaned it up real purdy. He ‘bout died right then and there. Debby is red haired and Irish on both sides. Things didn’t end well. To this day I wonder how many years she cut off his life. You believe a Marine is tough? You ain’t run up against an Irish woman.
