"Hey Beau"

Just curious, did LL have a sense of humor? I know he did in his books, sometimes, but what about on occasion?
That was the original question but now I'm wondering was he ever a kidder?
Since I'm at it, could he take a joke?
Sorry to get carried away with questions. 😁

When Beau was in NZ (hell 15 years ago) I can remember him telling me that LL got up early (was always the first up) in the mornings, but if he got lonely he had a wooden train whistle that he would start blowing to wake the rest of the house. So yeah I think there was definitely a sense of humour.

The English Language is weird. It can be understood through tough thorough thought though.

After the 1971 earthquake it was also his style to put the score to 2001 a Space Odyssey (the famous Thus Spoke Zarathustra cut) on the record player first thing in the morning. Turned up loud enough, the vibration of the speaker would feed back into the phonograph stylus causing a chain reaction that sounded just like the beginnings of an earthquake. He like to see how fast we could all take cover in the doorways.

Ha. Ha.

He actually was a very funny often silly man who had a great time.

He could take a joke though he wasn't the sort of person people played jokes on. Just his kids. Sometimes he liked it sometimes not. But, you know, the sort of jokes kids play on you are like that.

You and Beau put an image in my mind that I'll probably not forget.
Reminds me of an experience I had in the early 90s, when I was still installing carpet for a living... got the work order to put flooring in for Jack Hall, bass player for Wet Willie back when ( Keep on Smilin')
His house had cedar siding, and he was plagued by woodpeckers targeting the knots. So, when he heard them pecking, he'd grab his BB rifle and run out to "chase them off" (ahem).
The image of a middle-aged rock star shooting BBs at woodpeckers is still in my mind nearly thirty years later.
