I hope everyone is well. A bunch of friends and I just watched the stunning movie The Big Country from 1958. We all loved it, and everybody commented afterward that it very much had the feel of a robust LL adventure. Anyone ever see this? What are your thoughts? I thought the cinematography, scoring, acting, and script were top-flight. I suspect when people of a certain generation say "They sure don't make 'em like they used to," they have movies like this in mind.

Loved that movie...Gregory Peck, Chuck Conner's, Burl Ives, Charles Bickford (one of my favorite actors), Jean Simmons... Love the fight between Charlton Heston & Peck.. & the climatic ending....

Charles Bickford is definitely a shamefully underrated actor. Have you seen the John Huston film The Unforgiven? (Not to be confused with the similarly named Clint Eastwood movie.) It's like The Searchers in reverse- the Kiowas come hunting for one of their own who has been adopted into a white family. VERY well done, and a fine role for Bickford.

Loved him in any role, bad guy, good guy and especially ' The Unforgiven'. He was a good fit in any character he portrayed, especially in westerns. He was a bad guy in one with Gary Cooper and a few others. Played an evil captain on a doomed ship in 'Reap The Wild Wind' with John Wayne. Nominated for three awards; 'A star is born', 'The Farmers Daughter', 'The song of Bernadette' and a few others. Had two stars on The Hollywood walk of fame, and many others. Loved him in 'Johnny Belinda', 'Duel In The Sun', and so many TV episodes too numerous to mention... Loved him in a great western; 'Four Faces West' with Joel McCrea... His last great role was in 'The Virginian'.. He passed away in1967 of a blood infection and pneumonia... We will miss him...R.I.P. Charles...
