"Passin' Through"

I am a new member. Honored. The Sackett family is a literary treasure. A sequence of stories of strength, courage, loyalty, determination to do "the right thing", rejection of injustice and above all, unshakeable loyalty to family. "Jubal Sackett" is something of a fantasy, a man from England becoming an explorer in early North America, marrying a Native American princess, encountering a Mammoth and succeeding against a succession of challenges to establish a dynasty in the then New World. My favorite is an unusual choice, "Passin' Through". A 28 year old man from Texas who has had an almost impossibly hard life and who has become highly skilled with a gun and who has been a successful trail boss and just wants to be left alone. His adventures include killing a hit man sent and paid to kill him, meeting and quietly falling in love with the beautiful and virtuous 19 year old Janet LeCaudy, who needs help but has bad judgment in accepting it. Passin's rescue of her is classic heroic/understated romantic storytelling. In my opinion Passin' Through, who marries Janet, never reveals his name, is a Sackett. in my own fantasy I gave him the name of Luke Sackett. I often think of them happy on the ranch Janet inherited and raising a family which even today is making our world a better place.

I am new to the forum, but not to Mr. L'Amour. I am 78 years
old and have been reading him since early on. I have all
books and read at least 3 or 4 times each. I wish I could say
I have a favorite, but sadly, I like 'em all. If pushed, I
would say Bendigo Shafter or any of the Sackett books.
There will never be another Louis L'Amour.
