Good evening,

I read one of a Louis L'Amour's novels while still in high school, in the mid 1970s, that I recall really enjoying for its fast pace and positive spirit. However, I don't remember the title, and the only details that I do remember were that the main character had a Colt with either ivory or pearl grips that had imbedded into the side panels three or four little ruby-red bird-shaped stones of some sort, and that at some point in the book the character made a makeshift poncho for himself by taking an old blanket that he had and slicing it in the center to put his head though.

At any rate, any guesses as to the title of this novel would be very much appreciated.
