Please HELP! I recently inherited an oil painting painted by John Leone. I know that the art was on the cover of one of Louis L’Amour’s books. It is of 3 cowboys and a pack horse in front of tall desert peaks in the moonlight. The first and the third cowboys are pointing pistols in the air and middle cowboy has a rifle across his lap.
Does anyone know the name of the book that this painting is on?
Being a collector of books by LL, I have been all over The United States in search of different cover art and am still in search for about six different novels.... I love the cover art so much, that I will buy other versions of the art work for one book. I have a few that I have three different covers, a leather version and a paper back and they all have another illustration... In my search, I don't think its from 'Crossfire Trail', unless its one I hadn't seen before. (wish we had photo capabilities) What I did find is about as close as I can Get is from 'The California's' I hope this will help you... Thanks my friend for the search which I enjoy doing....
Somewhere I have seen an internet page with historical pictures of the cover art. Not sure if it is on this site or the LL Facebook page. There was a commentary by Beau so it is an authorised page.

Les The English Language is weird. It can be understood through tough thorough thought though.
Wish we had picture posting? Interesting, on this site I found a comic book section that featured western paperbacks... Ace paperbacks sold two complete novels including 'Crossfire Trail' and another for .35 cents....
Also saw a Bantam paperback of Silver Canyon for .25cents....A couple others with the CORGI title.. Remarkably, I found about thirty different cover art on 'The Daybreaker's' alone...
This is not a cover that I remember. Maybe a foreign edition.
There isn't one page with all the cover art but each book's, "more info" page has a selection of past cover art. It's not complete but it is what Paul could find on the web.
Dear Sir; Thanks for your response. I have tried numerous times to get results from your web-site and it keeps giving me 'No Results found'...I have checked, double checked the accurate wording, double checked and triple checked. I copied and pasted to another site without results. Is there any other way to offer so I can check this out/ Would appreciate.
Go here. http://www.louislamour.com/community/titlesbygroup1.htm It's a list of the books. Pick a book, scroll down and there is a section called "Historical Releases" that shows the various covers.
