Have the DVD in front of me. Simply states "based on a novel by Louis L'Amour" If wikipedia state that Louis wrote of Ketchum they're wrong.
The DVD summary shows it is loosely (VERY) based on Kilkenny. The summary finishes "sharing nothing in common with its real name historical outlaw"
Why the producers thought Ketchum was a better title than Kilkenny I have no idea. :7
I should add that the title character is not portrayed as a "Desperado"
