It is different to find an author to read and reread and read again. When traveling there are times that places and stories LL wrote about come back to me and I find myself wondering how much has changed...aside from asphalt and towns and populations. Sometimes parking and walking in remote areas you feel a story so much more. There are times on two wheels or four that pulling off the road and walking just a few yards off the beaten path is all it takes to make a story come alive. Or to give you perspectives you only dreamed about. It’s why I sometimes get lost on purpose...and you meet the nicest people and animals that way, in addition to seeing things you hadn’t even dreamed of. There was a horse once that walked over to me out of curiosity...at least it seemed that way as he stuck his big head over the fence wondering what the crazy human was doing at the dead end of a road. Another time a bear stopped what he was doing as I rode by on my BMW F-650, but only long enough to satisfy his curiosity before turning back to whatever he was grubbing for at the root of a tree. Once I was next to the bike on a parking lot in some remote area and a woman parked her car and walked over to me. Looking up into her eyes I must have gotten a “What the hell do you want” look on my face because she pivoted real quick. She was just curious, but when you are traveling alone in remote areas...anyway, she gave me a minute to secure the bike before approaching more slowly and was just curious about what riding was like. I explained a bit and told her that I was taught to ride by a woman, who was as independent as they come, and recommended that she sign up for bike school...you learn things in bike school anyone driving or riding should know and most areas have one.
