"Kim Sartain is Jim Sartain"

   Hello, my name is Jim Sartain.
My father was a big L.L. reader when I was a kid.
We got a kick when we came across the character of Kim Sartain in several stories!
I have two questions;
How or where did Mr. L'Amour find the Sartain name?
My second question is that I find the character to be named Jim Sartain in the 50's short story, Gila Crossing. That is the only time I find the first name as Jim, the remainder of stories the name is Kim.Why did he change from Jim to Kim?
Anyone ever hear this commented on?
Signed, Jim Sartain
