Happy New year to you all. I am writing at 10 a.m. 1 January and have just spent the last hour or so cleaning up a Broken Mirror!

We were woken by a loud crash and found a 4ft by 2 Ft mirror that was T's Christmas present from her parents in 1975 smashed to smithereens on the hall floor. (Our equivalent of Wally World picture hangers were bent straight) It took with it half of a set of china bookends and a china vase of flowers.

Yes, Happy New Year to all!

It's a good thing that mirror and China plus vases was not a picture hanging on the wall.

Allow me to share something strange my late Grandma Abreu and my present mom used to say. It was that if a picture falls off of a wall and cracks the glass...someone (a person or one in the picture) was going to die.

They said and wholeheartedly believed that old wives tale; because I should say both of one of their favorite persons on earth (my late grandpa back in 1965) Grandpa Abreu had a heart attack working on the job and died soon after...

that earlier his picture had fallen recently off of the wall at our house and cracked.

When her husband and my mom's father-in-law died a few days later, they both remembered that (to them) spiritually scary incident.

So the moral of this real story is don't let any pictures fall off of your wall this 2012 year.

Or rather as some peoples on earth would be able to say in their language and culture: may no pictures fall off of your walls and crack the glass this year.

Especially don't be looking in the mirror when it cracks..hardy har har
