Funny but seriously ... There's probably more wealth, more ranching, more farming, more guns, and more industry in CA than anywhere else in the country. More LL readers too! It's simply the most populous state and has more good and bad and it's the end of the road west, a place where people still go to reinvent themselves and where more things are tried out for he first time. The up side of that is an attitude of freedom that I have not experienced anywhere else in the country, the downside is more laws and attempts to control people. Strangely, if you red through the mass of legislation there are few laws, from guns to drugs that make anything COMPLETELY illegal.

The difference in CA is an exhilarating or exhausting level of detail that needs to be studied to be appreciated.

This post was funny but also close to being political ... be careful.

To me, all states are so very different. And that's makes traveling so very interesting! ... I LOVE to travel.
Incidently I saw today on the puter where Flaggstaff, Arizona is one of the most wonderful places to live in America.

I too love to travel TD. Love it. Once while working in Scottsdale, Az, we took a package tour to the grandcanyon. We rode in a bus from Scottsdale (outside of Phoenix, AZ) all the way to the Grand Canyon and went through Flagstaff. A fine, beautiful wonderul ride to say the least!

I'll just bet! ... Today i was dreaming of living in N. Los Angeles where I could travel up and down the coast more leisurely. So, as you can see, I'd be just about everywhere, if'n only I could.LOL
It would be nice to drop by your way for lunch, LD's, Hal in TX, then out to Rick's, then WyoGal's to see how she is fairing, and also to see if Beau and Paul would let me treat for lunch(they'd jump on that one, especially Paul, me buying!LOL)and perhaps out to see Les and then over to see WelshBob. And a few others of us, here and there. WHAT A TRIP, huh!?

Now, People, THAT is a fantasy trip!

Hey TD, if and when I can afford the drive, you can go too if you want (I'm in alabama, you still in Tennessee?). There is someone else on this forum that wants to go but no telling when I can go. Just can't afford it, and right now getting my youngest son started in a Technical College. But one of these days.

As I've heard many say before me: "travel broadens the mind." and I think I shall be doing a good share of traveling this coming up year. Through one of my school teacher's uncles I might be spending half the summer learning how to break wild horses down Montana way (so far just talk), then spend the other half ranching on none other than my families ranch in South Dakota. After that I'm researching all kinds of different colleges I might want to go to. Don't know where I'll end up, but I know I want get a degree in equine studies, and then become a certified horse-drawn or mounted-tour guide if perhaps there is not opportunity in a long term career on my families ranch in SD.

LD, you're a fortunate young man. You have some opportunities in front of you that this 50 year old man would dream of, if only I were 30 or so years younger! Savor every moment LD, you've been blessed.

I do wish I could come visit with everyone, but I'm afraid that's all it'll ever come to, just a wish. But, rest assured my friends, my fellow readers of Louis L'Amour, my heart is with you-all, even if'n I can't be there in the flesh, breathin' that good old western/desert/mountain air.
But, then again, who REALLY knows what the future holds..... I've been surprised a time or two in my life!
