Yuck! Facebook...I cancelled/closed out of my Facebook account quite a long time ago since it wasn't for me mucho boring networking socially with half hearted perhaps somewhat shallow people wanting to be my "friends" whom I wouldn't want to make friends with 99% of them in a true direct contact social setting in an actual world setting
Now on the world News tonight Facebook and the general rule makers want to allow little children onto having their own Facebook accounts so now they can chat with real toddlers in tiaras and have lots of "friends"; possibly sharing interests with children in the schoolyard making friends via Facebook poses a quandary for me where the line has to be drawn
Hoo boy...stranger things have happened in this world idiocracy running rampant worldwide
Much be a gaggle of lost lonely souls out there in the netherworld wandering around as one big mutual admiration society.
Information sharing takes many twists and turns
Although I hesitate to use the word traitors when it comes to the LL group sharing even out on Facebook; I guess any way, shape, or means to spread the word and information on LL lore may indeed be quite beneficial for fans around the world, and some can straggle back into the folds one day for the better; bringing new recruits since their new sharing techniques is likely as unique a strategy as any other.
Hummm?
I will dare to say what is evolving treads on new ground not lightly I might add
I don't like it, the direction, nor Facebook but I'm a lightweight when judging what reality is to most people what with all the variety is the spice of life indulgences and enabling going on
But each to their own I guess
Maybe over time things will work out better for healing all wounds and such what not
I can invent a few other ways to waste my time rather than on a fad like Facebook; anywho again maybe I am from another mind set and generation at 50 1/2 years old and I just don't get "it" and I'm the odd one out and yes I do miss Pistol, Mike ice and Doc Katy, Bert just to mention a few old LL timers

I guess the subject line was too long - the rest of Pistolero's name was cut off. I did intentionally abbreviate in the post, however, not knowing that the full name didn't show up on the subject line. Sorry.

Phyllis, you're FAR from chopped liver, and I hope you have a great vacation!

Pistolero is probably the only person to whom i've ever referred to by only their first initial, and that was just out of ease. Lots of letters to type in his full handle, you know.

I've been known a time or two in my days to be a little slow on the uptake, and now that you mention it, both you and Doc have been absent awhile too.

Glad that you're well and hope to see all back at the fire soon.

At first, after reading your post, I wasnt going to reply, but, I couldnt agree more with you Rick. Am replying as I wanted to share some thing that proves your point, about being addictive, or so stuck on FB. My daughter in law is one such case, she carries her lap top every where, even to the bath room. A few weeks back, I was watchin tv and heard a heavy thud and crash and my son went running into the bathroom and Eva had taken her lap top into the bath room and sat on the toilet doin the FB "thing" and she had sat there SOOO long both legs had gone to sleep and when she stood up, down she went. Man Oh Man !! Now she has it on her cell phone,SHH. Just had to share that ...Stumper

The campfire here has always been enough for me. I've been hammered by tons of people who wanted me to get a Facebook, my cousin used to be one of them, but now has switched to twitter. I didnt figure out until last week that nigh onto four months ago he had created me a twitter account and had been posting random stuff on it to try and get a bunch of followers.

He's around, but not as active as he once was either here or on FB. The last post I see for him on the Sackett FB site was June 5th when Rik was talking about his new puppy...puppy is named Tell. Cute little feller.

The last conversation Pistol started on FB was back in mid-May when he was talking about archery. He appears to be okay, just not as active on line as he once was.

Sigh, you want to be very, very, very careful about using any social networking site that requires a login. A forum like this is a bit of an exception as while Beau runs a commercial site it is low traffic and not likely to attract the attention of the Feds and the nefarious. I could bore with lots of details in regard to how data mining is done, but often the happenstance slip-ups in the customization process of COTS products is a goldmine to data miners. As an FYI these are the same people the Feds go to when they need info on a person of interest. You would be surprised what they acquire via slip-ups in customization implementations(generally application servers and HTP Server vulnerabilities and caching is what is exploited.

One of the worst things you can do is carry a Google log-in or even use their search engine (try ixquick.com instead – they even will proxy Google for you at StartPage.com)

Anyways, I would not consider FaceBook or Twitter or any of those social networking technologies from a data mining perspective.
