I, also, just finished reading The Walking Drum. What an excellent book! In many LL westerns, the hero finds a girl to his liking and in the last chapter he marries her and they ride off into the sunset. In The Walking Drum Kerbouchard finds five girls to his liking--Aziza, Sharasa, Valaba, Susanne and Sundari. In the last line of the final chapter he goes off in search of the fifth girl, "Sundari, I come, I come...!" |
