"The moon tonight!"

   Hey,
Anyone see this gorgeous moon tonight? I am in central Alabama and man it arose over the horizon a huge reddish/orange ball!! Now it is climbing higher and is yellowish and still large and so beautiful. I sat outside for awhile watching it in the chilly breeze! Watching it and the glittering stars and all accompanied by Coyotes howling and happing off yonder way was just capital!!! Just had to share that with y'all!

It was beautiful Pistol!! I've made a habit of taking the last part of the day, and reading from a tree in the woods behind my house, watching the sunset and enjoying the late breeze from off the rolling slopes. I love it when the moon comes out! It adds a silver luster to the night skies.

Oh yes, I too do that. I try to go sit outside and watch the dying of the day, setting son, birds, breeze easing along, etc.. I love the mornings too.

The most beautiful night sky I have seen is from the Monastery of Christ in the Desert near Abiquiu, NM, elevation about 6,500 ft. The stars were so clear you could almost grab them. The whole Milky Was was visible, the Big Dipper, Little Dipper, etc. A very mystical experience.

It was fantastic, even back here in the city. I'm at my daughter's house in Alsip Ill. I can just imagine how it would have looked out where all of you are. I am a night person, and in the summer sit on my swing and stare at the sky, look at the stars, at least when they're out. There is a really big one out by me, I call it the "Jesus" star, cause it outshines them all. Each to their own

Happy Trails ...

Phyllis, I am like you, loving the night sky, etc, and sit out at night just gazing at the stars, feelign the breeze caress my face, etc. I know the star of which you speak. always the brightest, and pretty much always in the same vicinity too.

As I work nights I know what you all are talking about. But in the morning I look up to see the moon one last time all pale looking, and wonder what all IT has done for some of US the night before?

It snowed here yesterday (Fri) so was surprised about 9:pm to see the moon so low on the horizon that you would think you could grab it. It was a pinkish grey...kind of spookey but beautiful and full of wonderment.

Happy Trails ...

Man oh man do I wholeheartedly agree with you guys sharing this experience.
I saw it Wednesday come up at dusk 6-6:30pm whilst driving east on HWY 104 by myself from Las Vegas to Tucumcari 106 miles all orange, large and beautiful...then again on Thursday morning at 4am when I got up for an hour to walk my 2 Chi-weeny dogs Chewy/his sister Olive around the block where we live on the North side of the NM Highlands University Golf course as the moon was going down all white glowing strong and was much revered and twice thankful again for this vision.
Thanks for sharing and this post...as I can still picture its eeriness delighting the senses of my mind

Here in central Alabama when it first came up from the horizon it was so huge and all red and orange looking. It was bigger than I ever saw it and must have been close to the earth at that time. It was like you could drive to it if there was a road, or reach out and touch it.

See, this is what I'm talking about...discourse from every point of view...and no problems...we all saw the moon and each of us because of where we were located, saw a different version of it.
Wonderful...right

Happy Trails ...

They say the moon is being sling-shotted away from Earth. Each year it is a couple of centimeters farther away than the previous year. Of course that in no way detracts from its beauty.

Rick, from 1919-1947 the Christian Brothers had a seminary in Las Vegas called Sacred Heart Training College. Do you know if the buildings are still there or have they been torn down?
