   Les,

Take a look at your first posting from your son's computer below. Note that your name has no little graphic G after it. This is showing me that at that instant you were recognized as a member. However, since later posts show up with the G (stands for Guest) it means that the system is not able to set a cookie in order to be able to relate your computer system to the IP address and then to the member name.

Also note that currently I am not logged in but in a moment I will log in and post a followup just to check but I am pretty sure that my next post will NOT show the G next to my name as the system will recognize me as the Admin and will put the little sillouette (sp?) next to my name. Lets test this now.

Now I have logged in and am sure that this message will show up without the little G next to my name.

Another way to tell is if you are correctly logged in, you don't have to type your name in on each message you enter. The system picks it up and enters it for you.

The most common cause of this symptom is a Browser, firewall or anti virus system like Norton Anti Virus not allowing us to set a cookie.

NOTE TO ALL: Is anyone else experiencing this? Please let me know because if it is a problem with the system as a whole, I need to be able to narrow it down to specific accounts to find a common denominator.

Thanks,

Paul

Unless you have mucked around with the default settings on your firewall, browser and anti-virus software you may continue to have trouble. The default settings on each and every one of these pieces of software is set to block cookies and certain other things (ad banners, popups etc.) Unless you actually go in and tell ALL of these software programs to allow LouisLAmour.com to set a cookie, any one of them may be blocking your registration.

I am kind of at a loss here unless there are a lot of other people experiencing the same trouble. I see several people that still have the guest icon next to their names but many more don't which means they are successfully logged in and the system recognizes them correctly.

I'll pose the question and see what comes up.

Paul
