   Happy New Year All

My 85th BD is this month.. thinking back its been 64 years since I work on "Fort Apache" in Monument Valley UT/AZ..John Wayne,Pedro Armendez, Henry Fonda< Shirley Temple..I was a young Man with a hot 34 Ford V8 and two single action 45 Colt pistol just out of WWII Army..

   I forgot about them. True Grit was good, but personally I prefer John Wayne's, and Aliens and Cowboys was ok but not my idea of a serious western. Now Open Range was a fantastic movie!

   OMG! yes I agree...last night late I suffered through a terrible thing made to somewhat resemble and listed as a "Western" filmed in 1994's "Bad Girls"
Holy cow plot/story line was a poor site for my eyes...
except for the camera staff/lighting crew/managers saw to it to take some decently good natural terrain shots and overall good lighting; so panoramic views of oranges, reds, colors, backrounds, props, and camera shoot angles were excellent
Backround was OK filmed at Red Hills ranch Sonora CA, a place I had heard of called the Alamo Ranch sits in the middle of the 18,000 acre Happy Shahan HV Ranch 7 miles n. of Brackettville on Hwy 674 located on US HWY 90, 120 miles W.of San Antonio. They also filmed scenes at Del Rio TX is a short 30 miles west of Alamo Village with Uvalde only 40 miles east. And other scenes filmed at Sierra Railroad in Jamestown California

   Down here I'd even be happy to see a western on the television. Our last was a repeat of Comanche Moon twelve months ago

I usually end up buying the DVDs and then find the film tucked away at 1.00a.m. or some stupid time.

Into the West, The Sacketts, Broken Trail and John Adams have not yet reached here.

   Yep some time ago. But as I said in another post regarding Tracker I didn't see Tracker or Quigley as western .

I have just been reviewing it in IMDB as I am looking at more purchases.

Another later western is Meeks Cutoff that I have just bought through Amazon so I hope it's good. Reviews seem okay.

   I would love to see a good film based on the expedition of Lewis and Clark, especially as the 200th anniversary of that event is coming up in a few years. I cannot think of actors I'd like to see in the starring roles - I suspect that good looking, well-groomed heartthrobs might be chosen if such a film were made. I'd still watch it, even so.

   I'm with you there Chris, Lewis and Clark would be a great epic, especially as the Great Falls etc can easily be computerised and made to look as was.

I mentioned in another post that the Hugh Glass or Kit Carson stories would be great as movies. I just finished reading The story of Quana Parker and the history of the Comanche nation. Fascinating stuff but any film would surely upset many people if shown accurately.

The cross cultural conflict that Quanah suffered was most interesting. I had read bits of it before but this really covered it well.

There were so many fouls on both sides that, if the truth WERE known, or I should say 'well known' because it is known REALLY, people just don't REALLY realise the depth of the kind of horrendous killing that went on, people would be upset, and that's putting it mildly, at both sides.
